There is no point to stressing out over things that I cannot control. If I absolutely cannot do anything then I let it go mentally and that helps with my stress levels. When I get caught up in stress, it invariably makes me feel like crap; it is usually something ridiculous that I have decided to obsess over – like OMG blue or green, green or blue . . .

I try to only worry about important things, not little things. I prioritise my worries in my head. If it is not a ‘useful’ worry, then I try to let it go. Sometimes I find writing down my concerns is almost like taking them out of my head. When they’re on the page, I can throw them away. It’s symbolic.

Exercise, sleeping and eating well all help to keep my stress levels under control. Probably the best way for me to handle any stress is by talking to my friends about my worries; and I do the same for them. This is so important to me and ultimately makes me feel much better. Talking puts my worries in perspective.

But if you feel you need to, see someone professional – a therapist or counsellor. I’ve done it and it helped. Sometimes we need more than well-meaning friends. Think of it as another way that you are taking your own happiness in hand. Simple talking helps.
